V, future king of Jerusalem, built the Saint Jean Church in 1115
and the Saint Nicolas Church in 1125.
The church Saint Jean was later destroyed but the chapel remains.

| * The
castle of Maupassant |
|
|
Around
the years of 1010-1011, Foulques
Nerra,
third Earl of Anjou, had a citadel built to the north of the Parish
on
Saint Hilaire-du-Bois
to strengthen his conquest.
The
castle was pillaged, destroyed and burned down
several times,
during the Hundred Years’ War, the religious wars and
the Guerres de Vendée.
Rebuilt at the end of 18th century, it became the property of the De Maupassants.
They gave it up for the creation of a hospice in 1859.
Today,
the Association: Vihiers Patrimoine takes an active part
in the restauration of the castle.
The
commune finances the work (coating, heating...)

loges are buildings covered with heather or straw: “brande”.
They served as agricultural outbuildings.
They
became obsolete because of the technical progress
in agriculture.
The
“Loge en Brande” in Vihiers
was built in the 1950’s An association is currently seeing to
it’s restoration. |
|
The
commune has a feudal butte and bailey dating back
to the 10th century. |
