In
March 1793, the market place was burned during the rebellion
that spread to Cernusson,
Le Voide,
La
Fosse-de-Tigné and Montilliers.
On
the 5th of April 1794, as in Montilliers and Le Voide, Tigné
was taken by the
Republican armies of Général Boucret who burnt down the castle
of, Tigné.
On
the 6th of April 1794, the troops of the Général Grignon
executed people and burnt down the market town. |

|
During
the feudal period, this castle had a dominant situation because
it was situated at the heart of several routes that went to
Anjou and Poitou.
As
far back as the 14th century, a town was built around this
castle but it was destroyed during the religious Wars in 16th
century.
It
was only in 1860 that the castle was restored. Today, five
towers and one watchtower remain.
Since
1989, Gérard Depardieu, a french actor, owns this castle. |
|
It
dates from the 15th century.
It
was burnt down in 1794 by republican troops and chouans used
it as a refuge in 1830-1833.
In
1876, the northeast side of this castle and the chapel were
broken up for the reconstruction of the castle “ La Boissonière”
in
Nueil-sur-Layon.
23rd
January 1989, the castle is listed as one of the
National Historical Monuments.
