Saint Hilaire-du-Bois

In the 11th century,  the commune was called, parrochia Sancti Hilarii. In the 17th century, the current name was adopted.
The commune is irrigated by the river Lys and by several of it tributaries.

Saint Hilaire-du-Bois during the Guerres de Vendée :

22nd January 1794, the commune was burnt down by troops of Général Bonnaire.

The first church dates from the beginning of 11th century. Damaged during the Guerres de Vendée, it was restaured
in 1800 in a néogothic style and was enlarged in 1864.

In 1993, inside the church, traces of frescoes dating 17th century were found.
In 1994, the restauration of these frescos gave this church the appearance that it had in 11th century.

* The Washhouse

The Washhouse “ La Grillerie” dates from 1937. It was built in cement.

* The fairies’ butte and bailey

This 24 metre high feudal butte and bailey were lowered   6 meters in 1994.
